On the state of the aviation industry of Ukraine in the first half of the 20-ies of XX century

Andriy Kharuk

Abstract— The article examines the state of the aviation industry of Ukraine in the first half of the 20-ies of XX century. It is noted that, on the one hand, the development of the industry was characterized by elimination of old plants built in the times of the First World War or the prewar period. This elimination was either instantaneous (for small businesses), or was taking the form of a more or less continuous "agony" ("Anatra" factories). On the other hand, new plants - primarily Kyiv aircraft factory – were established. This chaotic pattern predetermined the lack of a clear vision of the industry prospects by both the Soviet Union and Ukrainian leadership. Production of aircraft was minimized and the companies were mainly engaged in repair.

Key words: aviation, aircraft, aircraft building, aircraft industry, aviation plant
