Abstract— In the article academician B. Ye. Vedeneev's contribution to the hydraulic engineering development has been highlighted. The author shows the stages of forming personal Vedeneev's concern in developing hydraulic engineering. In 1912-1914 young Borys Vedeneev travelled to the Pacific ocean ports wishing to improve his knowledge in the field of port construction. He was a member and sometimes the headman of the search groups carrying out the hydrological and hydro-geological surveys around Mykolaivsk-on-Amur (now-Novosybirsk), in Sakhalin, in some other places of the Pacific coastline. Vedeneev took an active part in Vladyvostok port construction. He was very active in preparing drafts for wooden and stone piers and other ports structures. In January, 1916 B.Ye. Vedeneev became the foreman of piers' constructing in Kola Bay (Murmansk port). Experience gained by Vedeneev while participating in constructing the port structures in Vladyvostok and Murmansk greatly contributed to the outstanding hydraulic engineer's skills formation. His skills were revealed later during some hydropower objects being constructed. The publications by B. Ye. Vedeneev represent the most significant problems related to the hydropower structures' designing in our country and abroad, to increasing the power systems reliability, to introducing the advanced technologies into hydraulic engineering works etc.
