Main stages of life and activity of a famous shipbuilder V. P. Kostenko (1881―1956)

Abstract— In the article activity of marine engineer V.P. Kostenko on the territory of Russia and Ukraine is reflected and also his contribution to the development of domestic shipbuilding and fleet is analyzed. The author characterizes absolutely new forms of ship hulls created by Volodymyr Polievktovych which were unique shipbuilding plants for the times he lived. His scientific developments as a marine engineer are also of great importance. His works on overcoming wave resistance, ship theory, ships battle defence. All these works are based both on foreign and domestic experience. Also the author makes the attempt to show the personality of Volodymyr Polievktovych as a famous designer, marine engineer, publicist, statesman and social figure. It is also should be stated that theoretical and practical achievements of V.P. Kostenko greatly influenced further development of domestic shipbuilding and were absolutely new for the times they appeared.
