Wooden and stone bridges of Ukraine are the monuments of science and technology

Abstract— The saved monuments of science and technology are the objects of unfolded in time unique and peculiar experiment of man and nature. These monuments expose the pictures of development of science and technology in their material embodiment and indicate the results of creative activity of both famous scientists and unknown masters. In our country the bridges are the monuments of science and technology saved from the ancient times to present‐day. In this article a history of building of wooden and stone bridges on the territory of modern Ukraine is briefly described. The value of bridges for development of economy and military in different countries of the world is shown. The different types of bridges in the different regions of Ukraine and their short‐story technical description are presented. The history of the oldest stone bridges in our country – in Feodosia (constructed in 13th century AD), and Articulata (“Turkish bridge”, 16th century AD) in Kamyanets‐Podilsky (Khmelnytskyi Oblast) – is presented. The article contains illustrative materials and will be useful for students, graduate students and all those interested in history of science and technology and in the monuments of the past.
